Events for Women (That We’d Actually Enjoy Going to) | Oct/Nov ’18

It can be hard (and potentially ill-advised) to steer clear of all the bad news for women that’s out there. Furthermore, it can make it overwhelming to put yourself out there.

While there are of course numerous events and conferences available to us where we can feel comfortable, safe, included, and appreciated, sometimes it’s nice to spend time just networking, learning and celebrating with people who identify as women, and who have an understanding of the unique effects our gender identity has on our everyday lives.

As such, here are some hand-picked events for women coming up in the last few months of 2018 that are there to connect us:

1) Women in AI Dinner, Houston

events for women

Re.Work is the leading global events company in AI and deep learning.

As well as their exceedingly popular business events, this November, they’ll be hosting an evening of discussions and networking around the progress and applications of artificial intelligence. The event includes a champagne reception, a three-course dinner, wine, coffee and petit fours

Alongside the culinary offerings, the 80 attendees can enjoy three presentations (and an absence of recruiters.)

Further to this, the hosts are also offering a chance to win a pass to one of their summits until the 14th of October, in honour of Ada Lovelace.

Anyone interested can apply here

Date: November 27th, 2018.

Tickets: $95, available here

2) WomANZ Mixer, Melbourne

events for women

WomANZ is an online community designed to support and empower women in the Australia/New Zealand gaming industry. This community focuses on content creators and E-Sports but welcomes anyone who feels they can benefit or contribute, including people who identify as non-binary.

Their aim is to create a safe community for women in Australia and New Zealand where they can discuss challenges, seek support and advice, and help them succeed in their career.

This mixer will bring together members of the online community in real life for a free meet-up at the Common Man Lawn in Melbourne, Australia.

For a better look at all that they do on a day-to-day basis, you can take a look at their new Twitch account.

Date: October 27th, 2018.

Tickets: Free, and available here.

3) Women in Data Meetup, San Francisco

events for women

Another notable meet-up for women coming up this October will be taking place at Lyft HQ in San Francisco. These regular meet-ups always include lively presentations and intimate breakout groups where attendees can enjoy free-flowing conversation among their peers. Food and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be provided.

Date: October 18th, 2018.

Tickets: Free, and available here

4) ngGirls Workshop: Angular JavaScript for Beginners, Hamburg

events for women

Moinworld is a non-profit organisation that wants to change the face of the IT industry to make it more attractive to those who bring a different perspective. Their goal is to create a developer community where women and girls have the same opportunities to shape our digital future as men have.

As such, they produce events and facilitate talks that empower women and girls on the subject of development, including their upcoming Angular workshop.

During the workshop, participants will build and deploy their first Angular Web Application, but they will need some basic fundamentals to participate (basic HTML, CSS or Java.) If those who want to sign up don’t have that foundation, Moinworld (and this author) recommend Codeacademy as a good place to start.

Date: October 20th, 2018.

Tickets: Free, and available here.
